Senior Robotics Engineer, Perception
Join GIM Robotics in Espoo as a Senior Robotics Engineer, Perception. You will build robust vision and 3D lidar software enabling autonomous machines to navigate harsh environments.
Senior Robotics Engineer, Perception
Based in Espoo, Finland, GIM Robotics is a leading developer of autonomous mobile robot solutions. We're driven by a vision to design and deploy the most advanced, reliable robotic systems for a wide range of industrial applications, making a real impact on operational efficiency and safety.
At GIM Robotics, we're leading the change in robotics, developing robust and scalable software that brings autonomous robots and machines to life. We're committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible and are now looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer, Perception to join our team of 40 experts. If you're ready to tackle fascinating technical challenges and join a dynamic, forward-thinking team, we want to hear from you!
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Robotics Engineer, Perception, you'll build the software that lets our customers' machines see and understand the world around them. You'll work on camera and 3D lidar based perception: detection, classification and tracking of objects, free space and traversability analysis, and the sensor calibration, fusion and evaluation tooling that keeps it all reliable. You'll combine both approaches to the problem: classical, geometric and signal processing algorithms on point clouds and images, and machine learning based models trained and tuned for each customer use case. Our machines operate outdoors in rain, snow, dust and low visibility, on tight compute budgets and in real time, so robustness is a design requirement, not a finishing touch. There is also an opportunity to take on a technical lead role, leveraging your expertise to teach others and to shape our perception architecture. Our goal is to enable our customers' machines to move autonomously, and you'll be at the heart of making that happen.
Our culture promotes a positive and engaging work environment where every voice is heard. We operate with a can-do attitude and a deep sense of teamwork to achieve our shared goals. Our diverse team appreciates different viewpoints and is dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of continuous growth and shared learning.
What we are looking for
You're a highly skilled and independent team player with a strong interest in autonomous mobile robots and in making machines perceive their surroundings. You have a proactive attitude and a drive to spot opportunities for improvement. To succeed in this role, you should have:
Over 5 years of software development experience, with a proven track record of designing complex software architectures from scratch
A university-level degree (M.Sc. or higher) in a relevant field like robotics, computer science, or electrical engineering
Hands-on experience with camera and/or 3D lidar based perception, for example object detection, classification and tracking, semantic segmentation, free space or traversability analysis, or lidar based localisation and mapping
Command of both toolboxes: traditional algorithmic methods (point cloud and image processing, geometry, filtering, registration, clustering, state estimation) and machine learning based, model driven solutions (designing, training, evaluating and deploying neural networks for perception)
Expert-level C++ skills and experience with all steps from build to deploy including tools such as CMake, conan and colcon
Expert-level Python skills and experience with frameworks such as NumPy, SciPy and PyTorch
Experience with ROS2 in real robot systems, and with developing high-performance real-time software under tight compute budgets
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Proficiency with Git, Docker, and Linux environments
Willingness to learn; in our small teams everybody needs to do a bit of everything
We also consider the following skills a plus:
Hands-on experience with multi-sensor fusion across lidar, camera, radar, IMU and GNSS
Experience with sensor calibration (intrinsic and extrinsic) and time synchronisation of sensor data
Experience with SLAM, 3D reconstruction, or spatial data structures for large point clouds
Experience with perception data workflows: data collection, annotation, augmentation, and automated evaluation against ground truth
Experience with inference optimisation and deployment on constrained hardware (CUDA, TensorRT, ONNX, embedded or ARM64 targets)
Understanding of safety-related development for mobile machinery, for example hazard analysis, ISO 3691-4, or ANSI/UL 4600
Experience with web frontend technologies, such as Typescript and React, or backend frameworks such as Django
Experience with agile-based development
Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and Pipelines development
Project management and direct customer interaction experience
What we offer
