Want to build and code real robots for a living?
GIM Robotics offers a unique opportunity for people who are not only interested in making software that runs somewhere in a cloud but are also excited to see big machines being moved by the software.
GIM Robotics has robotics engineers developing our autonomous navigation and mapping stack and applying the solution to various customer applications. The cases vary from small proof of concepts to complete system deliveries in various industries and environments. At the heart of every application is our software suite based on a strong academic background in the field of autonomous navigation and robotics.
GIM Robotics is now looking for our next GIMster to join us in the role of Senior Robotics Engineer. In this role, you will focus on software development within our customer projects team.
Your Impact at GIM Robotics
As a Senior Robotics Engineer, your tasks will be:
- Full-stack software integration, combining essential components such as positioning, motion planning, and obstacle detection into a functional mobile robot or perception system.
- Full-stack software development, creating modules and components for a wide variety of platforms with customer-specific requirements.
- Case-specific algorithm and solution design and development tailored to customer needs.
- The opportunity to teach others and lead development work as a technical lead, leveraging your expertise in areas like trajectory planning and control, map-based localization, 2D/3D object detection, or object tracking.
- Contributing to module system integration testing, ensuring robust and reliable solutions.
The goal is to enable our customers’ machines to move autonomously, or to provide other intelligent functions such as driver assistance for improved efficiency. Our customer projects vary from small proof-of-concepts to complete system deliveries in various industries and environments. For example, we have been working with projects related to trams, agriculture, trains, autonomous vessels, autonomous cars, forestry, parcel delivery, and self-driving service robots.
Who We're Looking For
As a robotics engineer, you are a proficient developer and will gain a good understanding of algorithms used in mobile robotics (e.g., SLAM, obstacle detection, tracking, or path planning).
We value independent work, where you can understand the big picture and generate your own tasks, while being open about what is happening in reporting progress. You are capable of designing architecture and implementing it. You will work in an agile squad that has freedom over its ways of working. Though independence is valued, you are never alone. You will always be working as part of a team (or a squad as we like to call it) and support is available from your project manager, line manager, a group of specialists with strong domain knowledge, as well as interest groups focused on certain problem areas.
As an SME company, we value a spontaneous attitude and courage to spot places for improvement. With us, you have a real chance at making a difference. Good collaboration skills, integrity, and respect are a must since open and plentiful communication is the base of our working culture and competence. GIM Robotics is so much more than just a job – it’s a truly international community of people who are passionate about what they do.
Skills and Experience We Value
What we hope you Bring:
- University level (M.Sc. or higher) degree from a relevant field, for example, robotics, automation engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or similar.
- Development experience of about 5 years in autonomous navigation.
- Subject matter expertise in at least one of the following: trajectory planning and control, map-based localization, 2D/3D object detection, or object tracking.
- Proficient in C/C++ programming, with intermediate experience in Python.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Capable of independent software design and implementation, with experience developing as part of a team.
- Agile-based development experience, including experience as a Scrum Master.
- Familiarity with Git, Docker, ROS, and DDS.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Gtest, Robot Framework etc.
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems.
